Dear PVAC parents:
Does your child love swimming and want to take their talent and
potential to the next level? USA
Swimming is an exciting option you
might want to consider.
USA meets take place on weekends in a variety of locations including
Central Bucks South High School, West Chester University, Germantown
Academy, and GCIT. These meets offer swimmers the opportunity to swim a
greater array of events and can provide some "big meet experience." For
instance, in PVAC SAL meets, 12 and under swimmers are eligible to swim
the 50 free, 100 free, 50 back, 50 breast, 50 fly, and 100 IM. USA
Swimming offers the same age group the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 500
free, 50 back, 100 back, 200 back, 50 breast, 100 breast, 200 breast, 50
fly, 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 IM, and 200 IM. As you can see, the options
available to swimmers really expand under the USA format.
USA
Swimming also has the power to motivate your swimmer. Swimmers who
compete more have increased opportunities to achieve lifetime best times
and to reach personal goals and milestones. Besides the exposure to
added events, many competitions are classified as A/BB/C meets. Here,
swimmers compete in three separate divisions, within the same event,
based on entry times. This provides added incentive for swimmers to race
hard and earn ribbons.
Finally, Junior Olympics take place in March and offer season long time
standards as swimmers look to qualify for this special event! For many
swimmers, meeting the JO time standard is a true goal and if met, a
tremendous accomplishment. In order to qualify for Junior Olympic
consideration, you must be registered as a USA swimmer. Many past USA
Olympic swimmers such as Michael Phelps and
Natalie Coughlin have
competed in USA swimming throughout their respective careers.
USA
Swimming builds friendships. The more swimmers practice together,
the tighter the bond between them grows. This, coupled with the time at
USA competition meets, is a true team building exercise and absolutely
provides for a positive team experience.
USA
Swimming practice begins in early September and runs through the start
of the PVAC season. Practice will continue after the PVAC SAL season and
run through Junior Olympics in mid-March.
