Dual Meet, Invitational Meet, & Champ Meet Info

We would like to clarify a few things regarding Dual meets, Invitational meets, and Championship meets for our new swimmers and new parents.

1. Regular season Dual Meets - a Dual Meet is a meet between two S.A.L. league teams (eg. PVAC vs Radnor).  All members of PVAC's swim & dive teams may attend Dual Meets.  There is no additional fee for these meets and the respective head coach writes the lineup for the meet and chooses the events for the swimmer. These meets are usually on Saturday afternoons.  Swimmers are automatically signed up for these meets.  We encourage Guppy swimmers to attend all home meets.

2. Invitational Meets - an Invitational Meet (schedule here...) is an "optional swim meet" that is usually on a Sunday (or a Saturday when we do not have a dual meet).  An Invitational is an extra opportunity for a swimmer to swim in a meet and choose their own events.  Registered SAL swimmers are welcome to attend any Invitational (there are many throughout the course of the year) however these meets are not required. Many swimmers enjoy these meets because there are less swimmers from our team - usually anywhere between 10-35 or so at a session - and many other teams from around the SAL league are in attendance.  The seeding structure of these meets results in races being very close as the 6 swimmers in each heat are usually of equal ability.  There is an additional fee to swim at these meets - typically $4/event.

3.
"Team" Conference Championship Meet and  "Team" League Championship Meet - at the conclusion of the regular Dual Meet season, S.A.L. conducts playoff meets (similar to the NFL!) Each of the 4 SAL Divisions match up against their respective Division foes.  (PVAC Division standings here...)

Example: During the
Conference Championship Meet, the SAL West Division would swim off against the SAL North Division.  The 1st place West team swims against the 1st place North team,   the 2nd place West team swims against the 2nd place North team etc..  The same format holds true for the East Division vs. the South Division.

During the
League Championship Meet, winners from the prior week's Conf Championship Meet face off.   Losing teams from the prior week also face off.

4.
Post Season "Individual" Championship Meets - at the conclusion of PVAC's regular season dual meet season and Conference/League "Team" Championship Meets, the "Individual" Championship Meets are held.

-  the "Individual" Division Championship meet is open to all swimmers who have not qualified for "League Champs".  This is a large majority of swimmers on each team in the Division. Each Division in the SAL hosts a Division Championship Meet.   (SAL Divisions here...)

- the final, season ending
"Individual" League Championship meet hosts the top/fastest 18 swimmers in the league (plus 2 alternates) in each age group and is held at LaSalle University.

5. Fall Fest Invitational - this is PVAC's very own Invitational meet (PVAC "Fall Fest Invitational" info here...) hosted at Perk Valley High School.  We recommend that all our swimmers attend this meet as this is our largest fundraiser of the year.  The greater the turnout, the greater its success!!!  Since the Fall Fest is an Invitational meet, your swimmer (with your help of course) has the option to  choose their own events. If you are not sure what events your child should swim, please contact any Coach.  You can sign your swimmer up for this meet on our PVAC website.

If you have any questions on any of this, please feel free to contact any Coach.

Thanks,

The PVAC Coaching Staff
